I found it limited in that you are not able to pin anything except programs to the Win7 taskbar however. I was able to get the network icon in the quick launch toolbar area on the right but I prefer it right on the taskbar on the left because the icons Right-click on the taskbar and choose Toolbars > New Toolbar 2. Even resizing was not working properly: I could not move the limits back and forth as it was always dropping the handle once I tried to go the other direction.

They are getting created as seperate folder icons in the task bar. That's it guys. IDK why these guys are thinking its not.

Microsoft should have kept the quick launch bar (and a pinnable-to-taskbar recycle bin ) for Windows 7. I'm still annoyed that I can't DETACH the Quick Launch from the bottom taskbar and move it to the top, thus creating another/second ‘taskbar' area. You should note that the new Windows 7 taskbar allows you to dock items to the taskbar, combining the features of both the normal taskbar as well as the Quick Launch.
