Just go your original operating system. I assumed the black screen might be waiting for the standard logon Ctrl+Alt+Del, so I tried it. All the moderator posts were removed. I have three laptops set up that way and I use mostly 64-bit, but choose to leave it with the OS that it came with from the factory.
